More than 40 years in the horse industry began with a simple visit, as a 5 year old, to meet a horse owned by my parent's best friend. After that introduction to horses, I began lessons in a local riding school within a month. Shortly there after my competitive career began - in barn schooling shows, Trillium, A and FEI.
By the time I was competing A, I had Trillium students competing. In my early 20s, I had the great fortune of working with one of the best eventing coaches in Ontario and with a member of the Canadian dressage team. I also had the luck of working with a top level jumper coach and course designer. They taught me how to train and work my horses from youngsters to Grand Prix competitors.
I've worked with some great riders in the industry and I have worked for some of the great riders and horse people - learning many styles and techniques that I can now pass along.
The one thing that has never changed is the simple love of horses. I've backed, trained, vetted, showed and loved from afar, all ages and breeds - from Arabs and Thoroughbreds to Morgans and Canadians to Clydes to backyard 'accidents'.
I've also ridden and completed AQHA - reining and pleasure. Some fantastic memories and great stories of learning how to rein!
My greatest goal as a coach is to have my riders "ride over me."

Meet Kim, she's been loving horses since she was 2 years old. She fell off sitting on top of one and broke her nose. Her father thought he was in the clear and she wouldn't like horses anymore, but he was wrong.
She started officially riding at 6 years old, she is 53 now. She rode at Bertin Stables and Briar Hall when she was 12. Her family moved to a farm from the city where she acquired 5 horses. They had horses boarded with them as well, she did all the work before school then rode when she got home. Most of the horses she owned were given to her only to find out they were very green. She is mostly self-taught, usually learning the hard way, many falls lots of broken bones but she kept going. She learned to listen and feel her horses. She learned what worked and what didn't work. Most of her horses turned into amazing horses and she went to all the fall fairs.
She did however have one horse named Decorum who was a 16 hand Anglo Arab. She was terrified of her but with a lot of perseverance and bravery she got on her and worked hard to stay on her. The horse tried every time to get Kim off her back. Doing this she learned so much; patience, getting over fears and most of all how the nature of horses work. Kim had a private coach come to her named Louis Major. He was wonderful and helped her with her project horse. He truly helped Kim with her fears.
She then started riding at Halton School of Equitation. She was there for about 3 years and went into every show they had. As an adult, she opened her own boarding facility and again had a few horses of her own usually getting the "crazy" ones as that's what she learned best on. She rode several horses every day and started some training with Pat Jamieson.
Her coaching style focuses on bringing confidence to people and helping horse and rider work together in harmony. She also rode other people's crazy horses for them to bring them to a level the owner could handle.
Fun fact: She is a ghost hunter and has appeared on several TV shows. She is the lead subject in a documentary called 30 Ghosts.

I’ve competed in local schooling shows throughout the years, in many different disciplines. I’ve tried everything from eventing, to cow sorting with lots of different horses along the way. For the first few years of my riding journey, I rode many different disciplines, learning events like showmanship, eventing, western pleasure, and even barrel racing! I’ve spent years riding as many different types of horses that I can, and this has helped me to learn how to communicate with these animals in kind and effective ways. Learning all of these disciplines has helped me to gain experience, and ways to apply that through coaching and training.
My goal with all of my students is to help them have a good experience, and become versatile and confident riders.

My name is Claire, I fell in love with horses after watching a friend’s horseback riding lesson when I was about 12 years old. I did several summer camps before signing up for lessons of my own, where I rode as a hunter-jumper for a few years.
In late 2020, due to complications with the pandemic, I unfortunately stopped riding. My life got busy and I wasn’t able to get back into horseback riding for three years, until I found BR Equestrian. I started riding lessons at BR in late 2023 and started coaching shortly after.
My biggest goal in both riding and coaching has always been to have fun and enjoy every moment around horses, even the difficult ones. I mainly teach our beginner-intermediate students, where I place an emphasis on building a safe and functional foundation to horseback riding. Despite the tricky moments and challenges they may face, I want my students to learn how to appreciate themselves as hard-working riders and their horses as loving companions, all while having as much fun as possible.
